RAG Promises...

On the 20th November (time TBC) RAG will be holding an Auction of Promises in Mine in the Student Union to raise money for Children in Need. This is the perfect chance to do your bit for charity and possibly grab yourself an incredible bargain.

Entry is free, there are some great prizes up for grabs, and the list is still growing so keep an eye on the Facebook group for up-to-date information. Some of the prizes are:

a second term bus pass (worth £100)

Full car service to the value of £110

a haircut and blow dry at Hob Salon

go-karting vouchers

a hamper from pickle and potter

Blackwells book vouchers

Shaky Jakes vouchers

2 tickets to Jongleurs comedy club

10 fruity Friday tickets...and the list is still growing! Come along for a fun night and support Children in Need. We’re also looking for more great prizes. Perhaps you consider yourself a dab hand at cooking and wouldn’t mind auctioning your skills? If so let us know via the Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you then!

The RAG team.

Taxiii!!! : Helpful Information

"Taxi for (insert friends name here)" is one of my favourite lines on a night out, usually as a companion makes an utter idiot of themselves in one way or another. But although a good taxi ride can provide a great ending to an even greater night (we've all enjoyed a sing-a-long or a ride with a comedian behind the wheel), it's important to stay safe.
In all honesty, many of the horror stories you hear in Leeds are urban myth, but some might just be true. So here are a few tips for your next ride:

*I know it's cliché, but do TRY and stay with your group in a taxi.

*Build a relationship with a company and use them every time on the way out. I'm now on first name terms with the 'phone guy' at Apollo (that is of course his first name, right?)

*If your eyes are still working properly at the end of the evening, check the taxi has a licensed taxi plate. This avoids you frightening any 'average' road-user and vice versa. I have been an innocent driver when someone tried to get into my car outside the union. When they are unable to understand that you don't want them in the car no matter how much they pay you things can become a little awkward.

*And perhaps most importantly agree on a price before you get in. Most scary taxi confrontations I've heard about have stemmed from a dispute over price. So avoid the hassle and get a quote where possible. If not, be sure to keep a hawk’s eye on the metre (again this is conditional upon the working order of your eyes). You don't want to get caught short at arrival on your door-step.

We've recommended some trusty taxi companies too so store the numbers in your phone sharpish and you'll avoid digging through endless Freshers’ flyers to find what you're looking for.

HAPPY CABBING :)
